The most important ERP decision happens before implementation
An ERP system will sit at the centre of your business for five to ten years or more. Choosing the wrong one is expensive: it can mean workarounds, frustrated staff, costly customization and, in the worst cases, starting again. Yet many companies choose an ERP after a few sales demos, based on which presentation looked best or which salesperson called first.
ERP consultants help you make that decision on evidence. We start with your business: how you sell, buy, stock, manufacture, invoice and report, where today’s problems are, and where you want to be in three to five years. We turn that into clear requirements, then test the leading platforms against them. You end up with a written recommendation, the reasons behind it, and a realistic plan.
Because ITConnect works with Odoo, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, SAP Business One and Oracle NetSuite, we don’t need to push one product. If a platform we don’t work with fits better, we’ll tell you.

What our ERP consulting includes
Business process review
Workshops with each department to document how work actually flows today, including the workarounds.
Requirements document
A prioritised list of must-haves, nice-to-haves and future needs, written in plain language.
Platform shortlist
Two or three platforms that genuinely fit your size, industry and budget expectations.
Scripted demos
Instead of generic sales demos, each platform is shown handling your real scenarios, such as “receive a shipment in two currencies and invoice a customer with VAT”.
Comparison report
A scored comparison against your requirements, including fit, risks, integration needs, licensing model and implementation effort.
Roadmap
A phased plan for implementation, data migration and training, so you know what happens next.
How to choose ERP software: a practical guide
1
Start with problems, not features
List the problems you need to solve and the reports managers need. Feature lists all look similar; your problems are unique.
2
Separate must-haves from nice-to-haves
A short list of true must-haves, such as UAE VAT, multi-currency or batch tracking, quickly removes unsuitable options.
3
Think three to five years ahead
Will you open branches, add companies, start manufacturing or sell online? Choose a system that can grow with you.
4
Check local fit
In the UAE that means VAT, Corporate Tax records, e-invoicing readiness, Arabic documents and WPS payroll where needed.
5
Look at the total effort, not just licences
Implementation, customization, integrations, training and support all matter over the life of the system.
6
Judge the partner as much as the software
The same ERP can succeed or fail depending on who implements it.
7
See it with your own data
Ask for demos based on your scenarios, not slides.

What’s the best ERP software for a small business?
There is no single “best” ERP; there is the best fit for your business. For most small businesses in the UAE, the shortlist looks like this:
| Platform | Why small businesses choose it | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Odoo | All-in-one apps, flexible, quick to start | Quality depends heavily on the implementer |
| Dynamics 365 Business Central | Strong finance, tight Microsoft 365 integration | CRM and e-commerce often need extra apps |
| SAP Business One | Proven, structured processes, strong partner network | Can feel heavier for very small teams |
| Oracle NetSuite | Fully cloud, strong for multi-entity growth | Best suited to companies planning significant growth |
For very small companies that only need invoicing and VAT, dedicated accounting software may be enough for now. See Accounting Software

Should you upgrade your current system or replace it?
Sometimes the problem isn’t the software but how it was set up. Before recommending a new ERP, we check whether your current system can be fixed through reconfiguration, training, an upgrade or a few integrations. If it can, we’ll say so. Replacement makes sense when the system is out of support, can’t handle your growth, lacks essential UAE compliance, or would need so much customization that maintaining it becomes a burden.
Ten questions to ask ERP vendors
1. Can you show our top five scenarios in a live demo, using our sample data?
2. How is UAE VAT, Corporate Tax and e-invoicing handled?
3. Which of our requirements need customization, and which are standard?
4. Who will implement it, and what experience do they have in our industry?
5. How is data migrated, and who cleans it?
6. What does training include?
7. How are upgrades handled, and how often?
8. What support is available after go-live, and at what response times?
9. Can we speak to two clients similar to us?
10. What are the biggest risks you see in our project?
What’s in a requirements document
A good requirements document lists your processes by department, the reports each manager needs, compliance requirements, integrations, data to migrate, user numbers and roles, and growth plans. Each requirement is marked as must-have, should-have or nice-to-have. It becomes the yardstick for comparing vendors and the foundation for the implementation scope.
Who we advise
Trading and distribution companies outgrowing accounting software. Manufacturers needing production planning and costing. Retailers adding branches and online sales. Service companies wanting project and time tracking. Groups with several companies needing consolidated reporting. Family businesses moving from founder-run spreadsheets to professional systems.
Case study
A family-owned trading group with several companies was choosing between two vendors. Our process showed neither covered their inter-company needs without heavy customization; they selected a better-fitting platform instead and went live on schedule.
Why work with independent-minded ERP consultants
A consultant who sells only one product will always recommend it. We work across platforms, use scripted demos and score against your written requirements, so the decision is transparent. You own the requirements document and can use it with any vendor, even if you choose a partner other than us.
ERP Consulting questions, answered
What do ERP consultants do?
They help you understand your requirements, choose the right ERP, plan the implementation and, often, deliver it. Good consultants combine business process knowledge with system expertise.
How do I choose ERP software?
Start with your problems and must-haves, think three to five years ahead, check local compliance, see each system handle your own scenarios, and judge the implementation partner carefully.
What is the best ERP software for a small business?
It depends on your needs. Odoo, Dynamics 365 Business Central, SAP Business One and NetSuite are all strong options for different types of small and growing companies.
What is the ERP selection process?
Discovery, requirements, shortlist, scripted demos, evaluation and a final recommendation with a roadmap.
Can we use your requirements document with other vendors?
Yes. It’s yours to keep and share.
Do you only recommend platforms you implement?
No. If another platform fits better, we’ll tell you.
How long does ERP consulting take?
Typically four to six weeks for a full selection, or less for a focused review.
Can you review an ERP proposal we already received?
Yes. We can review scope, assumptions and risks in a vendor proposal before you sign.
Do we need a consultant if we already know which ERP we want?
A short review is still worthwhile. We check that the platform covers your must-haves and that the proposal includes everything needed, which avoids surprises later.
Do you help with the business case for an ERP?
Yes. We help you describe the benefits in measurable terms, such as faster month-end, better stock accuracy and less manual work, so management can make a confident decision.
