Microsoft Defender security, deployed and managed for UAE businesses

You may already own powerful Microsoft security tools. We switch them on properly, tune them, and monitor them 24/7, so your Microsoft 365 licences actually protect you.

What is Microsoft Defender?

Microsoft Defender is Microsoft’s family of security products protecting devices, email, identities and cloud services. It ranges from the built-in antivirus in Windows to enterprise-grade tools used by security operations centres. In business, the main products are:

ProductWhat it protects
Defender for BusinessEndpoint protection and EDR designed for small and mid-size businesses

About Microsoft Defender

Microsoft 365 licences often include Defender, unused

Many UAE businesses use Microsoft 365 Business Premium or enterprise licences that already include Defender capabilities, such as Defender for Business or Endpoint, Defender for Office 365, Intune device management and Entra ID conditional access. But licences don’t protect anything until features are configured, policies are tuned, devices are onboarded and someone watches the alerts. We regularly find organisations paying for advanced security while running with default or disabled settings.

What ITConnect does

Ongoing management

Policy tuning, updates and monthly reports

Microsoft Defender for Business

Defender for Business brings enterprise-grade endpoint protection to small and mid-size businesses. It includes next-generation antivirus, attack surface reduction rules, endpoint detection and response, automated investigation and remediation, and vulnerability management, with simplified setup. It’s designed for organisations up to a set user limit and is included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium.

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint

Defender for Endpoint is the enterprise version, with advanced hunting, longer data retention and deeper integration for larger organisations and security teams. It protects Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android devices and servers, and feeds alerts into Defender XDR and Sentinel.

Microsoft Defender for Office 365

Defender for Office 365 protects email, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive against phishing, impersonation, malicious links and attachments. Key features include anti-phishing policies with impersonation protection, Safe Links to check URLs when clicked, Safe Attachments to detonate suspicious files in a sandbox, and, in higher plans, attack simulation training and automated investigation.

Microsoft Sentinel and Defender XDR

Defender XDR correlates signals from endpoints, email, identities and cloud apps into incidents, so analysts see the whole attack rather than separate alerts. Microsoft Sentinel extends this with a cloud SIEM that can ingest data from firewalls, servers and non-Microsoft systems. Our SOC uses these tools to monitor and respond for clients invested in the Microsoft ecosystem.

Is Microsoft Defender right for you?

Good fit if…

  • You run Microsoft 365 and Windows
  • You already own licences that include Defender
  • You want security integrated with Intune and Entra ID

Consider alternatives if…

  • Most devices and services are non-Microsoft
  • You prefer a vendor independent of your productivity platform
  • You need a specific feature only another EDR provides

Alternatives: CrowdStrike, Sophos

How we work

  1. Review

Licences, current security settings, Secure Score and devices.

  2. Plan

Policies, onboarding approach, exclusions and rollout groups.

  3. Deploy

Devices onboarded through Intune or scripts; email protection policies applied.

  4. Tune

Attack surface reduction rules moved from audit to block; false positives addressed.

  5. Monitor and manage

Alerts handled by our SOC; monthly reporting.

Not sure where your gaps are?

Book a free security assessment and we’ll show you what to fix first.

Common Defender gaps we fix

Devices not onboarded. Attack surface reduction rules left in audit mode. Tamper protection off. Safe Links and Safe Attachments using defaults or disabled. Impersonation protection not configured for executives and domains. Alerts going to an unmonitored mailbox. Legacy authentication still allowed. Each gap leaves you paying for protection you’re not getting.

Why device management matters for Defender

Microsoft Intune and Defender work best together. Intune enrols devices, enforces encryption, updates and compliance policies, and deploys Defender onboarding automatically. Conditional access in Entra ID can then block access to company data from devices that are non-compliant or show a high risk level in Defender. This links device health directly to access, so a compromised laptop can’t reach email or files until it’s cleaned.

Attack surface reduction

Attack surface reduction (ASR) rules block behaviours commonly used by attackers, such as Office apps creating child processes, scripts launching downloaded content, or credential theft from system processes. They’re among the most effective Defender features, but they need careful testing because some business applications behave similarly. We run ASR rules in audit mode first, review results, add targeted exclusions and then switch to block mode.

Reporting

Monthly reports show device protection coverage, incidents and how they were handled, Secure Score progress, email threats blocked, risky sign-ins and recommended improvements, in plain language for management.

Choosing a Microsoft security partner

Look for hands-on experience across Defender, Intune and Entra ID rather than just licensing, a structured approach to tuning ASR and email policies, and real 24/7 monitoring of alerts. Ask how they handle false positives and how they keep up with Microsoft’s frequent feature changes.

Defender for Identity and on-premise Active Directory

Many UAE businesses still run on-premise Active Directory alongside Microsoft 365. Attackers who get inside often target it to gain domain admin rights. Defender for Identity watches domain controllers for suspicious activity such as reconnaissance, pass-the-hash and unusual replication requests, and raises alerts in Defender XDR. Where licensed, we deploy and tune it so these attacks are caught early.

What you get at handover

All devices onboarded and reporting, tuned email and endpoint policies, documented settings and exclusions, admin roles set up with least privilege, alerts routed to our SOC or your team, and a roadmap for further Microsoft security improvements.

Who uses Defender

Microsoft-centric organisations of every size: professional firms, clinics, trading companies, schools and technology businesses, especially those already licensed for Microsoft 365 Business Premium or E3/E5.

Case study

A consultancy on Microsoft 365 Business Premium had Defender licences but many devices weren’t onboarded and email protection used defaults. After our project, all devices were protected, Secure Score rose and alerts are monitored 24/7.
