Your most important room deserves proper engineering
Your servers, storage, firewalls and core switches are the heart of your IT. If the room they live in overheats, loses power or floods, your whole business stops. Yet in many companies the “server room” is a storage cupboard with a domestic air conditioner, a power strip and no lock.
In the UAE, heat makes this especially risky. Equipment generates heat constantly, and if cooling fails on a summer weekend, temperatures can rise past safe limits within an hour. Power fluctuations and outages, dust, and water from AC units add further risk.
ITConnect designs and builds server rooms and comms rooms that protect your equipment properly. We calculate the heat and power load, choose the right cooling and UPS, plan the racks and cable routes, add fire suppression and access control, and install sensors that alert us before anything goes wrong. Whether you need a single-rack comms room or a multi-rack data room, we build it to last and document it fully.

What you get
Room design and layout
Rack positions, hot and cold aisles, clearances for maintenance, cable routes and space for growth.
Precision cooling
Cooling sized to your actual heat load, with redundancy so one unit failing doesn’t cause overheating. For small rooms this may be dedicated split units with controllers; for larger rooms, in-row or precision cooling.
UPS and power
UPS systems sized for safe runtime, dedicated circuits, power distribution units in each rack and connection to the building generator where available.
Fire detection and suppression
Clean-agent gas suppression that puts out fires without damaging electronics, installed by approved fire-safety partners.
Access control and CCTV
Card or biometric access with an entry log, and cameras covering the room.
Environmental monitoring
Sensors for temperature, humidity, water leaks, smoke and power, with alerts to our engineers 24/7.
What is a server room?
A server room is a dedicated, secured space that houses servers, storage and network equipment with controlled power, cooling, security and connectivity. It can be a single-rack comms room or a multi-rack equipment room serving a whole building. The principles are the same at every size: keep equipment within safe temperature and humidity, provide clean and continuous power, protect it from fire and unauthorised access, and make it easy to maintain and expand.
Many businesses now use a hybrid approach: a small, well-built server room on site for local systems, combined with cloud hosting in the UAE for critical workloads. We help you decide what belongs where.
Server room requirements checklist
| Requirement | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Dedicated, lockable room | Controls access and keeps equipment separate from staff areas |
| Cooling sized to heat load, with redundancy | Prevents overheating if one unit fails |
| Temperature and humidity control | Recommended operating range roughly 18–27 °C |
| UPS with enough runtime | Rides through short outages and allows safe shutdown |
| Fire detection and clean-agent suppression | Stops fires without destroying equipment |
| No water pipes above equipment | Avoids leak damage |
| Raised floor or overhead cable trays | Keeps cabling organised and airflow clear |
| Environmental monitoring with alerts | Detects problems out of hours |
| Access control and entry log | Security and audit evidence |
| Labelled racks and documentation | Faster maintenance and troubleshooting |
How much redundancy do you need?
Redundancy means having spare capacity so a single failure doesn’t stop your systems. It is usually described with simple labels. N means you have exactly the capacity you need: one cooling unit or one UPS. If it fails, you have a problem. N+1 means one extra unit beyond what you need, so any single unit can fail or be serviced while the room keeps running. This is the right level for most business server rooms. 2N means a complete duplicate of every component, typically used for critical systems such as hospitals and financial services.
Higher redundancy costs more to buy and run, so we match it to the cost of downtime for your business. A professional office might be fine with N+1 cooling and a single UPS with good runtime. A logistics company running 24/7 operations might need redundant UPS and dual power feeds to every rack.
Why cooling needs extra care in the UAE
Outdoor temperatures above 45 °C put heavy strain on condensers, and many buildings shut down central air conditioning at night or at weekends. A server room that relies on the building’s AC can overheat quickly when that happens. We use dedicated cooling that runs independently of the building system, size condensers for summer peak temperatures, add controllers that alternate and back up units automatically, and fit temperature alarms so our team knows immediately if anything changes. Regular filter cleaning is essential because of dust.
Who needs a proper server room
Any business running servers on site: companies with on-premise ERP or accounting databases, file servers, CCTV recorders, phone systems or virtualization hosts. It is also required in some regulated sectors where data must stay on premises or within the UAE. Even businesses that have moved most systems to the cloud still need a properly built comms room for firewalls, core switches and the internet lines that every cloud service depends on.
How we build your server room
-
Survey and load calculation
We assess the room, the equipment you have and plan to add, and calculate heat and power requirements.
-
Design and quote
Layout drawings, equipment list, and a fixed quote, including any civil works, electrical and fire-safety items.
-
Build
Electrical works, cooling installation, racks, containment, cabling, fire suppression and access control, coordinated with your landlord and contractors.
-
Commissioning and testing
We test cooling failover, UPS runtime, alarms and monitoring before moving equipment in.
-
Migration and handover
Equipment is moved in a planned window, then you receive drawings, test results and a maintenance plan.
Not sure what you need?

Options
| Small server room | Comms / data room | Large multi-rack room | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Racks | 1–2 | 2–6 | 6+ |
| Cooling | Dedicated split units | In-row / precision | Precision with redundancy |
| UPS | Rack UPS | Modular UPS | Redundant UPS |
| Fire suppression | Optional / recommended | ✓ | ✓ |
Maintenance after handover
Cooling units, UPS batteries and fire systems all need regular maintenance. UPS batteries typically need replacing every three to five years, and cooling filters need cleaning regularly in the UAE’s dusty conditions. We offer a maintenance plan covering inspections, battery tests, alarm tests and 24/7 environmental monitoring.
Case study
A trading company in Jebel Ali moved servers from a store room into a new two-rack server room with redundant cooling and UPS, ending heat-related failures.
Server Room Build questions, answered
What is a server room?
A dedicated, secured space that houses servers, storage and network equipment with controlled power, cooling, security and connectivity.
What are the requirements for a server room?
Stable temperature and humidity, reliable power with UPS, fire detection and suppression, physical security, cable management and monitoring.
Should we build a server room or move to the cloud?
It depends on your applications, data rules and costs. Many businesses use a small server room plus cloud hosting. See Cloud Hosting
Do you handle fire suppression approvals?
We coordinate with approved fire-system contractors for the required authority approvals.
Can you upgrade our existing server room without downtime?
Usually yes. We phase the work, install new cooling and power alongside the old, and move equipment in short planned windows.
How long does a server room build take?
A small room typically takes two to four weeks; larger rooms with civil works take longer.
What temperature should a server room be?
Most equipment manufacturers and industry guidance recommend an inlet temperature of roughly 18–27 °C with controlled humidity. We set alarms well before the upper limit so there is time to act.
How long should the UPS last?
Long enough to ride through short outages and, if power doesn’t return, to shut systems down safely or wait for the generator. For most offices that means ten to thirty minutes at full load.
