The foundation every network sits on

Cabling is the least glamorous part of IT, and the most permanent. Laptops are replaced every few years, switches every five to seven, but the cables inside your walls and ceilings stay for fifteen years or more. If they are installed badly, every piece of equipment you connect to them will underperform, and fixing it later means opening ceilings, disrupting staff and paying twice.

Walk into many offices in Dubai and you’ll see the problem: patch cords hanging out of the rack, unlabelled cables, extension cables taped along walls, and a comms cupboard nobody wants to open. When a desk stops working, an engineer spends an hour tracing a single cable. When the company grows, nobody knows which points are spare.

Structured cabling solves this. It is an organised, standards-based system where every cable runs from a labelled outlet to a labelled port on a patch panel, through proper trays and routes, and is tested to prove it performs. ITConnect designs and installs structured cabling for offices, warehouses, clinics, shops and server rooms across Dubai and the UAE, and we hand over full test results and drawings so you know exactly what you have.

What you get

Cat6 and Cat6A copper cabling

Data points for desks, phones, printers, cameras and Wi-Fi access points, run to the correct standard with proper bend radius and separation from power cables.

Fiber optic backbone

Multimode or single-mode fiber between racks, floors and buildings, for speed and long distances where copper can’t reach.

Racks and patch panels

Floor-standing or wall-mounted network cabinets, installed, earthed, dressed with cable management and labelled so any engineer can understand them in minutes.

Certification testing

Every link is tested with a certification tester. You receive the report showing each cable passes its performance category.

Labelling and as-built drawings

Every outlet, patch panel port and cable is labelled with a consistent scheme, and the floor plan shows where each point is.

Moves, adds and changes

After installation, we add points, move desks and repair damage, keeping documentation up to date.

What is structured cabling?

Structured cabling is a standardised way of wiring a building for data and communications. Instead of running a cable directly from each device to whatever it needs to reach, all cables run back to central points, usually patch panels in a network rack, through organised pathways. Connections are then made with short patch cords at the rack.

A structured cabling system has six main parts: the entrance facility, where the internet provider’s lines enter the building; the equipment room or server room; the backbone cabling connecting rooms, racks and floors, often fiber; the telecommunications rooms or comms cupboards on each floor; the horizontal cabling from the rack to each outlet; and the work area, meaning the wall or floor outlets where devices plug in.

Because it follows recognised standards such as TIA-568 and ISO/IEC 11801, structured cabling is predictable. Any qualified engineer can understand it, it supports any brand of network equipment, and it can be expanded without starting over.

What is a Cat6 cable, and when do you need Cat6A or fiber?

A Cat6 cable is a category 6 twisted-pair copper network cable. It supports 1 Gbps reliably up to 100 metres and 10 Gbps over shorter distances, and it is the standard choice for desk points in most offices today.

Cat6A (augmented category 6) supports 10 Gbps over the full 100 metres and has better shielding against interference. It is thicker and costs more, but it is the right choice for Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 access points, which can exceed 1 Gbps, and for any space you want to future-proof.

Fiber optic cable uses light instead of electricity. It carries 10 Gbps, 40 Gbps or more over hundreds of metres or several kilometres, and it is immune to electrical interference. We use it for backbones between racks and floors, links between buildings, and long runs in warehouses.

How a cabling project works

  1. Site survey and floor plan review

We walk the site or review fit-out drawings, agree the number and position of points, and plan cable routes and rack locations.

  2. Design and fixed quote

A points schedule, rack layout and bill of materials with a fixed price.

  3. Installation

Our team installs containment, pulls cables, terminates outlets and dresses the rack, coordinating with your fit-out contractor so ceilings aren’t closed before cabling is done.

  4. Testing and labelling

Every link is certified and labelled. Failed links are fixed before handover.

  5. Handover

You receive test reports, as-built drawings and the labelling schedule.

What to check when comparing structured cabling companies in Dubai

Ask for a sample test report and a sample of their labelling and drawings from a previous project. Check whether they offer a manufacturer-backed warranty, which requires certified installers. Confirm the brand of cable and components quoted, since cheap cable often fails certification. Ask whether they will coordinate with your fit-out contractor and building management. And make sure the quote includes testing and documentation, not just installation.

Common cabling mistakes we fix

Running data cables next to power cables, which causes interference. Exceeding the 100-metre limit for copper. Bending cables too tightly in trays. Using patch-cord cable for permanent runs. Leaving no spare capacity in racks. Skipping testing to save time. Each of these causes slow or intermittent connections that are hard to diagnose later.

Structured Cabling questions, answered

What is structured cabling?

A standards-based cabling system that connects all your network devices through organised racks and patch panels, instead of random direct cables. It is easier to manage, faster and lasts much longer.

What is a Cat6 cable?

A twisted-pair copper network cable supporting 1 Gbps up to 100 metres and 10 Gbps over short distances. It’s the standard choice for office desk points.

Should I choose Cat6 or Cat6A?

Cat6 is fine for most desks. Choose Cat6A for Wi-Fi access points and anywhere you want 10 Gbps for future growth.

How long does structured cabling take?

A small office usually takes a few days. Larger projects follow the fit-out schedule.

Do you provide a warranty?

Our workmanship is guaranteed, and certified installations can carry a long-term manufacturer system warranty.

Can you fix existing messy cabling?

Yes. We audit, re-terminate, label, dress the rack and replace failed runs, then provide documentation.

What should I look for in structured cabling companies in Dubai?

Certified test reports, labelling and drawings at handover, a manufacturer warranty and references from similar projects.

Can you install cabling in an occupied office?

Yes. We work after hours and at weekends, protect desks and floors, and plan the work room by room so staff can keep working.

Do you provide fiber splicing and testing?

Yes. We install, splice and terminate fiber, and test every link so you have proof of performance for the backbone as well as the copper.

Can you add a few points to an existing system?

Yes. We match the existing cable category and labelling scheme and update your drawings.
